What is Best of our Counties?

Best of Our Counties is a unique range of locally and ethically sourced food and drink which you will find in many of our Midcounties Co-operative Food stores and online via our new Click & Collect Service.

We work with over 150 different suppliers whom are at the heart of what makes Best of our Counties. We are all about experiences, the highest quality, great tasting, responsibly sourced and locally produced products. We invest in our communities, support our local farms, butchers, producers, and champion sustainability, education and health.

What is Click & Collect?

Click & Collect is our exciting new platform that enables us to deliver a premium Best of our Counties range in our convenience store format. You can shop an extended selection of our bestselling lines, and have them delivered to a participating store for collection.

Our approach differs in relation to the picking process when compared to a standard Click & Collect Service. Our products are picked and packed by hand, then delivered to store with care via our distribution partner. This ensures maximum freshness, availability and choice from a number of our valued suppliers.

As a result we do charge our small ‘Hand-picked For You’ fee of £5 per order. This is added on to your basket at the checkout.

The benefits of buying local

There are number of benefits to shopping local of which we support through the Best of our Counties ranges:

Local products are higher quality and more nutritious. Taking fresh produce as an example, the time from farm to consumer is considerably shorter, reducing the degradation of nutrients and taste.

Local products are more environmentally friendly. The distance travelled for local products from farm to store is also much shorter. Multiple factors contribute to a reduction in CO2 such as reduced food miles.

Buying local is an investment in your community. By supporting your local farmers and producers, money you spend is retained in the local community, ensuring future food security.

Buying local also means that our customers know exactly where their food comes from and how it has been produced, providing peace of mind and assurance that it is of the highest quality in addition to being sustainably sourced.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is simple: fresh, local, seasonal. We aim to source from the home or neighbouring county of each store. Inevitably it is sometimes necessary to go a little further to source food when demand is high or external factors outside of our control restrict supply. However, we always aim to work with small, high quality local producers.

Outside of the Best of our Counties brand are products we directly source. Directly sourced products are designed to enhance and support our ranges where our core distribution network is unable to do so.

Our Butchers

In a selection of our Food Markets we operate Butchers’ Counters, they only sell meat sourced direct from local farms or those who are Best of our Counties accredited. This is to ensure the finest, high quality cuts are available for our customers to enjoy with minimal impact to the environment. Our expert colleagues are always on hand to answer any questions and make recommendations.

Our Delicatessens

We also operate a number of Delicatessens in a selection of our Food Markets and Supermarkets. Here you will find a vast selection of locally sourced delights including: cheeses, freshly prepared pies, pastries, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, handmade ready meals, tarts and handmade pâtés.

Our Patisserie

Lastly, there’s Patisserie. A selection of our Food Markets feature Patisserie Counters brimming with delicious, high quality and handcrafted local goodies.
